SAN LUIS OBISPO - A Cal Poly student is hitting the road for a ride of a lifetime.
David Sacher, 21, will make his way down to the bottom of the world by himself, on his bicycle.
"It's going to be a long and lonely road," Sacher said.
He said he is doing it for the life experience, and for a good cause.
Sacher graduates from Cal Poly June 13, and then it will be him, his bicycle, and the open road.
"This July I'll fly to Alaska by myself. From the north shore of Alaska, a town called Prudhoe Bay, I'll ride south all the way to the bottom of Argentina." he said.
His route will take him on a 15,500 mile ride through two continents and several countries.
"I'm looking forward to seeing different places and just feeling the different areas that I'm in, and meeting people there and getting to know different cultures," said Sacher.
A friend inspired Sacher to do the ride, and Sacher welcomes the challenge. He hopes to finish in 10 months, but said the hardest part will be leaving his loved ones.
"That's the hardest part of this trip right now, the people you leave behind, and the fear and anxiety they have to go through while you're gone," said Sacher.
Sacher will be riding between 60 and 100 miles a day, and will be updating his progress Online.
He is riding for a charity called Acirfa, a non-profit organization that provides bicycles to people in Zambia.
