Santa Maria - Around seven Sunday morning a fire was reported near Twitchell Dam just east of Santa Maria near Highway 166.

The fire was pushed by high winds but fire crews got the upper hand and stopped it from spreading.

The recent rain and grazing cattle actually helped prevent this fire from spreading faster than it did.

The wind also played a part in sparking the blaze.

A connector on a power line broke causing the wires to fall to the ground and ignite the fire.

Dozer crews and hand crews attacked the flames from the ground while the air attack dropped fire retardant and water from the sky.

Crews contained the fire around eleven thirty Sunday morning.

 It charred 100 acres.
