SANTA BARBARA COUNTY - In April a marijuana grow near New Cuyama was busted leaving behind a devastated environment filled with trash.

Saturday an organization based out of the San Fernando Valley cleaned up the area.

A group of fourteen volunteers and forest service personnel prepare to leave Aliso campground near Cuyama.

Their destination is a marijuana grow site about five miles up the mountain...that is filled with trash.

After hiking through the back country of the Los Padres National Forest ducking under trees and climbing up hill after hill the group arrived at the first section of the grow.

After the plants were eradicated from the site all of the grower's equipment and trash was left behind.

The forest service does not have clean-up efforts in its budget so these volunteers with the organization habitat works decided to help.

The clean-up is a lot of hard work.

From picking up the piping from the irrigation system to gathering all of the other harmful materials left behind.

This year the US Forest Service has eradicated forty eight gardens totaling more than 350 thousand plants.
