SAN LUIS OBISPO -- A grandmother from Washington State is walking nearly 5,000 miles to recruit bone marrow donors.

On Friday, Jeana Moore's journey across the United States led her to San Luis Obispo.

She has already walked 1,200 miles.

Jeana's grandmother, Jada, was born with Leukemia.

She had a bone marrow transplant when she was seven months old and it saved her life. Jada's leukemia is now in remission.

"It's so easy to join the registry, it only takes a cheek swab to see if you're the one that could save a life," said Jeana.

Jeana says there was only one match for her in the bone marrow registry: a 30-year-old man from Germany.

"There's a lot of fear around what it means to be a bone marrow donor," said Jeana. "Medical technologies today have improved and it's not as scary as people believe."

Jeana's goal is to have walked from Seattle to Los Angeles and then to New York City by Spring of 2011.
